 Women's Golf 2011

The last competition round for the Ladies Golf has been completed on Consolation Day.  The nine hole golfers were playing on net, Christine Roozen played well to finish with a 34, followed by J Yates with 36.  Erica Jones was awarded the nine hole, Noeline Masters Consolation Cup, being the best player on the day who has not been a trophy winner throughout the season.

The Saturday ladies played exceptional golf with Flo Smith scoring a 66 net followed closely by K Rolleston on 67 and E Wright on 70.  Kerry Rolleston also scored a two on the 16th hole.  Several Wednesday players turned in rounds close to par, with Lynne Nelley, after a break of several weeks, shooting a 72 net in a count-back from T Bellingham to take out the eighteen hole Consolation Day bragging rights, they were followed by R Shaw, L McCarthny, E Hammond and M Duncan on 73.

The sunshine and last Eagles event for 2011 brought out 22 eighteen hole golfers on Wednesday 9th.  Once again Audrey Mulcahy topped the field with a brilliant 69 net followed by L McCarthny & L Lunjevich on 72, R Shaw 73 and T Bellingham 74.  ‘Two’s’ were scored by Liz Smith on number 6 hole and A Gardner on number 9.  Also spotted, two birdies on number 12 and another on 15!

The nine hole ladies completed their competition for the 5th and last round of the Wines and Spirits Cup.  Noeline Masters was in good form with 17 stablefords, W Woods, R Smith & J Yates 15.

Approximately 24 members stayed for the AGM held after haggle presentations.

15 members from Kaitaia and 18 from Whangaroa played for the Pot Plant on Wednesday 2nd November.  Rain lifted to present a fine but windy day for the competition to begin.  Once again the scores from Whangaroa were excellent!  Kathy Graham with 47 stableford points followed by D Collins 39, P Weber,F Hills, M Tansey & J Young 35.
Three ‘two’s were scored by Whangaroa ladies.
The top ladies scores for Kaitaia were Anne Squire 42, R Steed 40, F Smith 38, A Mulcahy & L McCarthny 36.   Rosaleen Steed scored a ‘two’ on number 16.  Whangaroa are again to be congratulated in scoring a better average stableford than Kaitaia. Look after that Peace Lily, we will be back to compete again next year!!

The final round of the Roozen Cup and Putting play-off was played for by the 9 Hole girls.  Rae Smith handed in the top score of 36 net followed by N Masters & J Yates 37, C Roozen & W Woods 39.

The Kaitaia Ladies (9 hole and 18 hole) played for the Boyd Trophies on Wednesday 26th October. It was lovely to have Maggie and friend Joan, in attendance for lunch and and announcement of the results.  The nine hole Boyd Trophy was won by Dulcie Cameron and Carolyn Tomkins with a 4BBB net of 33, followed by R Smith and C Bennett with 36.

Eleven pairs of 18 hole golfers competed for the other Boyd trophy. The pairing of Raewyn Harrison and Liz Smith set the pace with 62 in the 4BBB. L Lunjevich and R Steed 64, A Squire and N van der Sluis 65cb, L McCarthny and K Rolleston 65 and T Bellingham and Lesley Masters 67cb.

Saturday 15th October ladies reported for golf in fine conditions. Liz Proctor had an especially good day with the golf clubs and produced a score of 41 stablefords to win the haggle of the day. In the competition for the E Brewer Trophy, Lynn Masters led with 37 points.
A very windy and showery day greeted the Wednesday 19th ladies, playing for the same trophy.  Just five hardy individuals braved what turned out to be blustery conditions, with several others staying indoors to paint!  Top of the field was Anne Stanton with 37 stablefords, followed by R Shaw, L Smith & A Mulcahy 28 & B Muller 25.  A count-back resulted in the E Brewer Trophy being won by Saturday player Lynn Masters.
Our annual Ladies Match-play Championships were held on the 8th and 9th of October.  Fifteen ladies entered into three divisions, Silver, Bronze One and Bronze Two.

The Silver Division had four entrants with the final being fought out over 36 holes on Sunday between Marj Duncan and Anne Squire, (1st and 2nd Seeds).  Both players were playing steady golf which enabled the game to go to the 29th hole, Marj winning 8up.

The Bronze One event attracted eight entries, but there was a late withdrawal by the second seeded Elaine Hammond due to a bereavement. 1st seeded Linda Lunjevich and 3rd seeded Ellen Wright, (after playing two 18 hole rounds of golf on Saturday), meet in the final on Sunday.  Linda played her usual steady golf while Ellen was delighted to find form on the right day to edge out Linda, again on the 29th hole to win 8up.

Adele Gardner and Raewyn Harrison played an interesting Bronze Two  match on Saturday.  Raewyn raced away to in the early stages of the game to be 5up after the first nine holes. She held on to the lead to beat Adele who had left her run too late.  Raewyn as 3rd seed, then meet Lynn McCarthny, 1st seed.  Lynn struggled with her game and Raewyn put up a good fight. After the first nine holes, the match was all square. Lynn however, knuckled down to the task and won on the 15th by 4/3.

Thank you to the referees and observers, Brian Mulcahy, Audrey Mulcahy, Bev Currie and spectators who not only enjoyed the beautiful day but also the entertaining golf.

The seven 9 hole ladies played stableford with Wendy Woods’ exceptional round of 22 giving her top position followed by N Masters with 18 .
A form of golf not often played by our ladies has been completed in competition for the McMahon Bisque Par Trophy.  Course strokes are allocated by the player at the completion of each hole.
It was pleasing to see the Wednesday 14th September ladies awarding some players not often in the prize-giving list.  Raewyn Harrison had an exceptionally good day with a Bisque Par score of +8, followed by V Yates and R Masters +7, A Mulcahy +6, A Stanton and J Goodhew +5.

Two of the Saturday 10th girls had set a very high target with Flo Smith, (after receiving professional coaching I’m told), finding form once again with a magnificent score of  +11 followed closely by J Thomson with +9. Flo Smith is the worthy winner of the McMahon Trophy for 2011.
As the weather improves, so does the golf.  Marj Duncan is back to playing quality golf with a win over the Saturday 3rd field, although on a count back from K Rolleston and P Waaka with 37 stablefords.

Eight 9 hole golfers played round 6 of the Roozen Cup. The cream rising to the top was Christine Roozen with a 35 net from D Cameron 37 and N Masters 38.

Those not involved in Archibald Cup competed in a stableford haggle with Bev Currie winning with 37 on a count back from L Smith.
